Retro Games & Names
I have been playing a lot of retro games lately.
Not truly "retro" by the standards of people my age, I think, but in the grand scheme of things they're called retro. A lot of things on the PSP, PS Vita, and Game Boy Advance library because I have a homebrewed Vita I have in my everyday carry.
I've been drawn to things like Pokemon as I never played any of the Game Boy titles, the Harvest Moon series, various otome/josei games, and other life sims...and in a lot of these games you can name your characters. I've been experimenting with names in some of these games since I'm changing my name, or trying to... I have been using our "collective" name in some games I "share" with the others, but some games that are just "mine" to play, I've been trying different names.
They all feel weird. So I guess I'll write some of them down with my feelings.
- Bea - A derivative of "Beatrice" from Umineko no Naku Koro ni. I do actually go by Beatrice, sometimes, but I'm not sure if I click with the name much anymore... I think I'll end up keeping it.
- Amia - The screen name of one of my favorite characters, Mizuki Akiyama. ...I'm always overly concerned about giving people the wrong impression by naming myself after transgender girls when I'm essentially cis. It's more complicated internally, for me, with how I see myself in my internal world though.
- Plachta - A name I stole from the Atelier character. I like this name, and I love the character quite a bit, but it doesn't quite feel like a "me" name. I wish it did, because her budding friendship with Sophie really touches my heart and I sympathize with her. ...Also this is a Slovakian word, so I feel strange using it as a name.
- Helly - I feel like if I say this is from the character in Severance that should be enough of an explanation.
- Cardia - The name of the protagonist from Code: Realize. I like her design (just not her clothes), but I don't think this name really suits me either. I probably need to play more of the game.
I guess if I think about names to try in the future I should list things I like here. Maybe they'll give me some ideas.
- Shades of red and pink.
- Flowers, especially roses and hydrangeas.
- Soft and gentle post-rock music.
- Exciting fantasy and romance stories with an element of mystery.
- Springtime and autumn
